Years into my personal yoga practice, I still considered yoga to be a purely physical exercise. Not until attending my first yoga teacher training did I understand how deep of a practice yoga truly is.

Yes, yoga exercises your body.

Yoga teaches you how to be flexible and how to build strength.

Yoga teaches you how to be steady in both your mind, body, and soul.

Practicing Yoga teaches you how to feel good.

Yoga is a holistic healing practice & practicing yoga will change your life.

The purpose of yoga is to find peace and calm within yourself; so that no matter what your external circumstances are you can be content and able to act from a place of Love.

Yoga is a Sanskrit word that means To Unite or Connect.

Practicing Yoga connects you to your true Self, your Higher Power:

Whatever you believe in, Yoga is not inherently religious. Whether you call it God, Goddess, Source, Nature, The Universe, Science, or any deities/gods/goddesses. I believe it is all the same thing and the same Truth lies in any practice to reach it.

Yoga connects you & grounds you to Earth, energetically connecting you to all life on her.

Asana is a Sanskrit word meaning posture or pose. Yoga Asana is the physical practice of yoga, the workout that many people consider to be Yoga.

Pranayama is commonly called Breathwork and is being aware of & controlling your breath in different practices to help you feel good.

Prana means Life Force, your breath is your life force.

Breathwork can be practiced on its own, or in conjunction with Yoga Asanas.

Mantras are the Vedic Hymns that are chanted within a yoga class or on their own as a meditation.

OM is a Mantra, and is meant to be chanted in 4 parts:

A (aaaaa)

U (ooooo)

M (mmmmm)

_ (sacred silence)

All Yoga Practices are preparing you for Meditation (the ULTIMATE Yoga Practice).

Meditation gives you the ability to feel calm, and at peace, despite what may be happening in your life or around you.

Yoga was created to prepare you for meditation, and meditation brings you into Samadhi - Enlightenment.
